Oven Cooked Cornish Game Hens

I was at my company’s Thanksgiving potluck a little over three weeks ago. Now the food?? There was a variety of food which included but not limited to: etouffee, Dominican rice, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and crockpot mac n cheese. Of course, there was also an array of desserts such as caramel drizzled chocolate chip brownie bars, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and grape yogurt. I tried most of the food and it was good. Mm-mm good!

One of the two dishes that I wanted to try out and add to the Thanksgiving menu was the cornish hens. The other is etouffee which I will attempt another time. 😃

As usual, I spoke with the fiance and he was on board with me to prepare the cornish hens, Since Pinterest is my favorite place to search for recipes, that’s where I went. I knew they could be fried, grilled or slow-cooked. Nevertheless, I wanted to oven cook the game hens.  That’s precisely what I did.

After spending a few minutes digging, I came across this recipe.

This was perfect as I had been thinking of incorporating a few of the ingredients into meals for the holiday.

Here is the recipe:

6 cornish hens

4 tablespoons of spices (Himalayan salt, garlic salt, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, and black pepper)

A Stick of melted butter

On to preparation:

First, preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line the baking sheet with foil. cornish game hens, cornish hens

Then, mix the spices and set aside.

Next, melt the butter and rub all over the cornish hens; sprinkle the spice rub all over the cornish hens

Lay the hens(breast side up) in the oven for an hour.

Voila! The cornish hens are ready to be eaten.

All done!

Though this was my first time preparing this dish, I must say I did a great job with this one.😋 It was nice, juicy and tender! 👌🏿 I did incorporate my spices but that did not negatively affect the meal.

Anyway, I did not realize how big and filling one hen would be. I underestimated their size.

Besides, this is a dish I will be sure to prepare in the future.

It’s easy to make, delicious, and cost-effective.
